The Phillipe Starck Louis Ghost Chair is really beautiful.
We are seeing it everywhere.
Here it is used in the most common way as an accent chair - totally unadorned. Lovely, but because it is getting so popular, not as unexpected in a room as it used to be.

Perhaps in an effort to reinvent it, the set designers for Gossip Girls had pads made for the chairs. I really do not like it, I think the chair loses some of its ethereal quality.
But this recent make over stopped me in my tracks. I was taken by the incredibly classic form of the chair floating under the gauzy sheer slipcovers. Isn't this combination fantastic?
I would use this slipcovered chair in any number of rooms! What do you think?

Great post! I adore that chair and know just the right place to have on in my home! I love the way they float under that gauze.
ReplyDeleteA ghost chair.....I am worried a little....LOL !
ReplyDeleteVery pretty lines...

I love the slip covers. Ax
ReplyDeleteI ADORE this chair and hope to own one (or ten) one day! I completely agree with you. The cushions change the whole effect. I love the gauzy slips for fun, but really just love the chair in it's purest form.
ReplyDeletei definitely am a ghost chair fan.
ReplyDeleteand i think these ideas are super !

I do love the gauzy cover. I thought about renting lucite look a like chairs for our daughter's wedding reception--triple the cost!! We went with white--rather have food than chairs :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic idea. They really are ghosts now. :)
ReplyDeleteI've been debating getting one, even spend some quality time with one the last time I was at a Moma Store. But, I'm curious about how they hold up over time. Do they scratch? Crack?
I love the sheer white slipcovers, just beautiful! I agree with you on the padded covers, hides the 'invisible' chairs too much.
ReplyDeleteNow the gauze really stopped me in my tracks!! floaty, ethereal.... wow....
ReplyDeleteI honestly do not like plastic in any room and especially not plastic furniture whether it is trendy or not. But that's only my personal taste and has nothing to do with an interior someone else wishes. The idea certainly has a point and
ReplyDeletethe slip covers made from sheer are fun though - I think they fit best the "ghostly" impression the designer intented.
I think those gauzy covers help that chair quite a lot. Sure, it is a beautiful chair and a very graceful form when it is empty, but who really wants to see a dinner party full of guests with their rear ends pressed against the plastic (probably one of the things the set designer was trying to solve when those pads went on).
ReplyDeleteNot sure about durability - any one have first hand experience?
ReplyDeleteThese covers are a womderful idea - no less ghostly but still elegant and unusual!
ReplyDeleteThat first image of the chair next to a regular chair really nails how ghostly and ethereal it is. I'm with you, not loving the pads...but the willowy see through slipcover brings it's "ghostiness" back home!
ReplyDeleteGreat post!
Love these chairs.
ReplyDeleteI actually love the ghost chairs AND I love them with the slipcovers. Two great looks!
ReplyDeleteThe slipcovered photo is amazing! They were genius to think of it this gives many of us a new way to think and use this chair.

I love them "as is!"
ReplyDeleteTotally agree - the upholstered ghost chair is not good, but the slip covered chair is pretty cool!
ReplyDeleteI really love the first photo... the naked ghost chair... very cool... Stop by my blog for my 100th post giveaway if you get a chance!

So cool, it's my favorite chair among the modern ones! I truly love the second picture, so ghostly...
ReplyDeleteok, can I be tacky? remember those plastic outdoor chairs that they started making slipcovers for? it kind of reminds me of those! haha!! do you know what I am talking about? although I have to agree that these slips are beautiful - actually they are more like the see through slips people make for Georgian dining room chairs.
ReplyDeleteGina - I loved your comment about my birthday post. you are always too sweet!!! I hope you win!!!!!!
The ghost chairs with the gauzy slipcovers are fantastic!! Wow!! They look like they're ready to just float away.... so airy and light and elegant :-)

ReplyDeleteI agree with you on the pads for the ghost chairs on the Gossip Girls set - it just comes off as looking tacky. Slipcovered chairs are beautiful!
