Hardware in the Christopher Peacock Style Kitchen

The Christopher Peacock Style Kitchen continues to be ever popular. For the elite few who can afford these kitchens they embody a classic, old world style. Popular among the rich and famous, Christopher Peacock has clients world wide and many in NYC and the Hampton's.

For the rest of America copying these kitchens seems to be a popular topic among many kitchen designers, clients and blogs. I have posted twice on Christopher Peacock. The first Elements of Christopher Peacock Style Kitchen remains my most viewed post. The second, Lighting in a Christopher Peacock Style Kitchen, is also very often frequented.
Recently I received a request to find this lighting fixture above in the most recently designed CP Kitchen. The result proved the power of the Internet when Velvet and Linen and Kitchen and Residential Design were able to work together via Willow Decor to locate it!
I get emails weekly from my readers for help locating similar style hardware. After months and months of research, and the help of my readers who also have undergone relentless searches, here are my best suggestions for recreating this look in your kitchen.
The Peacock Cabinet Latches: There are are two types of latches,
the "ice-box cupboard latch" and what I call "solid cupboard latch".
The ice box cupboard latches above, that are almost an exact duplicate, are from Cliffside Industries. They are very high quality and well made. I have these in my own kitchen and I love them.
The CP solid cupboard latch is more common and available from many retailers including Restoration Hardware and several on line dealers.
Resotration Hardware
My readers have commented and I have read lengthy discussions on the range of quality of this design. Some are difficult to twist and, as such, become cumbersome for active kitchen use. Two manufacturers who consistently have rave reviews are Rejuvenation Hardware and Cliffside Industries. These products are very high quality, and are easy to manipulate. Other readers have mentioned that they order several extra latches from Restoration Hardware and return the ones that are hard to open.
Cliffside Industries
The Ice box latches on the Christopher Peacock Refrigerator panels and wall units proved harder to recreate.
Eventually we found the Roseland Ice Box Company. They make a series called the McCray which are reproductions of the 1900's Ice boxe latches. The quality and look were exactly what were needed. I have never dealt with them directly but some commentors have had some issues.

Roseland Iceboxes
The range of pulls available are staggering. They can be found in several sizes from smaller cabinet to larger door pulls.
We have found that Van Dyke's, Merit Metal, Rejuvenation and Restoration Hardware had the best selections to emulate this look. I love the RH Aubrey and Bistro Pulls. I personally put the RH Bistro Pulls in my pantry. Other readers have had luck with Kennedy and Natz. This is an area where you can add a bit of your own personal taste to your project.

Rejuvenation
Van Dyke's
Locating the CP-like Bin Pulls were much easier, though personally time consuming.

In my own kitchen quest I bought 8 different bin pull look alikes. I mounted them on a board and had my family try each one to get an idea of how they would feel in day to day use. Hands down for quality and ease of use, as well as great design, I recommend the Bin pull from Restoration Hardware.

Last September Christopher Peacock Cabinetry was purchased for over 12 million dollars by Smallbone, a British company who has their own high end cabinetry line as well an umbrella company for several other lines, including Paris Ceramics. Smallbone recently filed for bankruptcy and its rumored that Christopher Peacock, himself, is trying to buy it back. It has even been rumored that he has tried to re hire his craftsman to avoid having them lose their jobs.
Sotheby's

We can only hope that Mr. Peacock is able to help keep the cabinetry business alive. Otherwise, we will need to find someone new to turn to for inspiration. All the links highlighted bring you to the exact product mentioned under each heading. I hope this helps my many readers who continue to use the Christoper Peacock Style as a source of inspiration for creating their own beautiful interiors. If anyone else has a good source do let me know so I can share it.

  3. Gina,

That story will live on in infamy. I still shake my head over how all of that came together.

Anyhow, great job on the hardware search. I've had tremendous luck with the surprisingly inexpensive latches from Restoration Hardware. I never knew about the Roseland Ice Box Company until just now. Thank you! This post is going into my keeper file.

  4. You have truly inspired and helped me with all your research. I am currently building a house in the Philippines and neither Christopher Peacock nor his kitchens are known here (well, maybe to very few). I have accessed your posts to direct my kitchen contractor and together we will be able to create the kitchen and butler's pantry of my dreams!

Keep up the great work and keep those wonderful posts coming!

  5. I have read all of your posts on Christopher Peacock. My husband and I are finishing up the Farmhouse we've been building and I'm trying to decide on pendant lights. You included the yoke pendant from circa lighting in one of the CP posts. Have you seen a kitchen with the circa yoke pendant with the small shade? I have been trying to find a kitchen picture with these pendants but haven't been able to.

  13. Hi Gina,
thank you very much for visiting my blog and leaving such a nice comment.
I did not know Christopher Peacock before as I am dwelling rather on painting and sculpting than on interior design itself. But I am very much interested in the latter and love to look at people's interiors and home decorations, other peoples styles and tastes and how art could fit into those interiors :).
Visually these kitchen are very appealing BUT from a cleaning point of view not very practical - so it seems. Especially those snap handles appear to me as real nail killers and I do not dare to think about cleaning those handles when oily or sweet stuff has come across them. I would say - these designs are typically male - nevertheless beautiful. What a dilemma - LOL!

  14. This is unbelievable, as I was searching the Internet today for Christopher Peacocke Hardware replicas. Knew that Restoration Hardware carried a line (thanks to Paul Anater), but was unaware of the others.
THANK YOU so much Gina for including additional links. -Brenda-

  18. My kitchen is one of the photos you have above. The Peacock one with the open glass pantry doors showing old Dundee marmalade jars. I was the one who found the latches for CP. He did not offer them at that time and I wanted latches to match an old antique piece in my kitchen (My kitchen is one of the 'Kitchen's of the Month" at House Beautiful in March 2007 and is still on the website.) I found them online and had them put in my kitchen. I will try and remember where I found them as they weren't very expensive but have held up well. If you check out the kitchen at HB, the color on the walls is really a beautiful grass green not the chartreuse in the photo.

  19. After doing a bit of research, Cliffside Industries looks just like the latches that are on my CP cabinets. They are easy to open, yet sturdy and the chrome finish has held up well (I have 6 boys and none of the latches have broken!) Well, I have 4 boys and infant twins and the twins can't open them yet!!

  20. THANK YOU! You don't know how much you have just helped me. I have been going back and forth on two completely different style kitchens and finally have decided on a variation of a Peacock kitchen.

  24. How many different types of pulls are typically in a Peacock kitchen? Do certain types of pulls belong on specific types of drawers/doors?

  25. i was recently in the peacock showroon in merch mart chciago. There is a custom single barrel roll top hood that is gorgoeus. I think it was stainless but i think it would be even more beautiful in german silver --does anyone know who makes the peacock hoods or who does great custom hoods like this? k

  26. Responding to the Anonymous inquiry regarding Christopher Peacock's range hoods, I spent days researching trying to find a hood which sounds like what you describe. I could not find it searching the net. Finally, the publication came to the rescue, and the company is Rangecraft in New Jersey. I since designed and ordered two totally custom hoods from them for a project I did in Greenwich CT, and have received many compliments. I would highly recommend them.

  30. I like the icebox cupboard latches in one of the first photos. Are they best for upper cabinets? My thought is to put latches on the upper cabinets, and pulls on the lower, but am unsure whether that might compromise the look

  31. Can anyone tell me where to find the incredible Hexagon dining table displayed in the print ads for Christopher Peacock kitchens?

  33. A variation on the glass and metal square within a rectangle light pendant can be found at Croft and Little, http://www.croftandlittle.com/tro-f9994.html. It's the Morgan 4-light pendant.

  34. I love your blog! It has been very helpful to me as I create the center of our family life, the kitchen. I am in a dilema I can't tell what finishes CP uses for his plumbing, lighting and hardware. From your blog it sounds like he uses polished chrome for his hardware or is it polished nickel? in the photos it looks like he uses both polished nickel and satin nickel for his lighting. Is this accurate? Can you mix polished chrome hardware with satin nickel lighting? Lastly what finish does he use on his faucets, polished or brushed? I appreciate your input and hope you are feeling better.

  35. My Christopher Peacock butler's pantry is pictured above with the solid cupboard latch and the open door with the cream colored collection of english pots. I specifically requested chrome latches and bin pulls as my sink has a chrome faucet. It looks really nice. I just did another CP wet bar/small kitchen in an addition in my home and this one is polished nickel - for something different. I haven't received them yet but I will let you now how the chrome is versus the polished nickel. As an interior designer and homeowner, I have to tell you the quality of Christopher Peacock is amazing.
